5 fall business fashion trends

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

Fall is here and so are all things pumpkin spice, sweaters, and cool mornings. As someone who isn’t the biggest fan of fall (shocker), the one thing I do appreciate about this season is the fashion. The fashion industry takes a bit of a turn when it comes to fall. This change from summer to fall brings us some of the best looks of any season, from casual streetwear to business professional. We’re here to break down some of this fall’s best business looks that you can try for your next meeting or networking event (pyjama bottoms are totally acceptable).

1. The oversized blazer

Blazers are a staple piece, especially when building your own capsule wardrobe. They are a must-have piece of clothing that has been constant in every professional’s wardrobe. So how is this season different than past ones? In the past, we’ve seen cropped and fitted blazers being a center point for business outfits, but this year, people are ditching their fitted blazers and opting for a baggy and oversized fit instead. This can give the illusion of better posture, enhancing broad shoulders (sometimes using shoulder pads), and mimics confidence. Pair it over a bodysuit and jeans and you’ve got yourself an easy business casual look.

2. Leather anything

This year, we’ve been seeing a lot more leather than usual and we’re not mad about it. As a style that works for absolutely anyone, leather can be used in many different forms. You can wear any style of leather pants, leather skirts, a leather jacket, or go for a leather on leather look (because we’ve never heard of too much leather). The variations are endless!

3. Wide leg trousers

With the fashion industry switching from skinny jeans to loose and flared pants, you can never go wrong with wide-legged trousers. This timeless piece can be worn time and time again, paired with nearly anything. Need to dress it up? Pair it over a simple button-up. Need to look professional for a meeting or networking event? Throw on a blazer over it. Trying to sport a casual look? A t-shirt or graphic tee will do the trick! You really can never go wrong with a pair of these. Wide-leg trousers can give the illusion of height to make you appear taller. They are a simple way to make your outfit look more put together. Plus, they’re very comfortable which is always a win!

4. Coordinated pantsuit

Pantsuits typically used to be seen as more of a male-dominated or political outfit but in recent years, that narrative has been switched around. It’s now becoming more and more common to see coordinated pantsuits being worn in the business world. These are such a classy and fun way to make your outfit look professional without the hassle of putting different pieces together. Coordinated pantsuits can be worn in any colour and style. If you want to blend in, you can never go wrong with a classic black pantsuit. If you want to have more fun with it, try opting for a blue or pink suit to add a pop of colour. Pair it with simple accessories and you have yourself an effortless outfit for your next business adventure.

5. DECA Toronto Met merch

You didn’t think we’d write an article about fall fashion without including our own merch, did you? A bit more on the casual side, our DECA TMU sweater is the perfect thing to wear during the DD sessions, after a long day of zoom meetings, or after your case cutting competition. The sweaters come in a tan shade with white details. With tan being a popular colour for the fall season, we can’t wait to show you what we have in store!
